Book- “The Warmest Blanket in the World”

How can Frida help keep Ama warm?

Frida loves spending time with her great-grandmother, Ama, and listening to her inspiring stories of activism. Ama believes in helping people, especially children and families. But Ama has one big problem. She is always cold. Her fingers feel like ice cubes, and sometimes, she feels like she lives inside a refrigerator. Frida has to do something to help, just like Ama taught her. With the help of a kind person named Tanis, and a special kind of wool called qiviut, Frida finds the perfect way to keep Ama warm!

Praise & Recognition

"There is a sweet intergenerational relationship between Ama and Frida….The Warmest Blanket in the World is a tender story of family and kindness. It's wrapped in qiviut and embedded with affection and humanity. It doesn't get any more warm-hearted than that."

Canlit for Little Canadians, Helen Kubiw

"The illustrations in The Warmest Blanket in the World reflect the emphatic tone of the text and enhance the connections between the four generations represented in the story."

Canadian Teacher Magazine

"The gorgeous and very colourful illustrations by Ellie Arscott invite us into a multi-generational world of shared magic between child and great-grandmother and the stories that bind them together….The book's messages of empathy and empowerment will resonate with all age groups, particularly with young girls."

The Glebe Report

"A children's story by author Tamara Levine titled The Warmest Blanket in the World connects Inuvialuit traditional knowledge with female empowerment, detailing how each generation of women over the past century fought for rights now seen as a given."

Northern News Services Ltd. (NNSL)
"When writing her children’s book, Tamara Levine looked up what the warmest wool in the world is. That’s when she learned about qiviut, the downy underwool of the muskox, and the story of Tanis Simpson." Cabin Radio
